The Adventures of Arty Anderson
In this first book Arty struggles with bitterness as he questions how a loving God could have let his father die. Before they even reach the ranch, Arty and his mother have to deal with two unsavory characters, who are up to no good. They also encounter Marshal Luke Bodie and meet the ranch hands. Then they take over the Circle A, and Arty finds himself on the most exciting ride of his life.
Arty, still struggling with bitterness over the death of his father, develops into a real cowboy. His mother reluctantly allows him to get his first gun when Marshal Bodie agrees to teach him how to handle it safely. Then a cattle-killing black cougar, named Phantom, returns to the territory; and Arty faces a situation that tests him as he's never been tested before.
This book takes readers on a picnic with Arty and his friends Esther, Jasper, and Tom. When they ride to an unfamiliar section of the Circle A, they discover a beautiful little valley. A violent storm interrupts the picnic and sends the four friends riding for cover. By the time they reach an old line shack, the storm is raging; and Tom has disappeared. Arty rides back into the storm to rescue his friend, but both of them face serious danger.
This book finds Arty and his new friend Little Hawk, an Apache, back at the line shack Arty discovered in the previous book. This time, however, the shack isn't deserted. Little Hawk has been living there. Before long, though, someone else moves in while Little Hawk is away. These unwelcome guests prove to be looking for more than shelter; but Arty, Little Hawk, and the Circle A hands are ready for them.
The final book in the series follows Arty on a cattle drive, moving a herd from the ranch to Kansas with an outfit made up of riders from the Circle A and another ranch. From the first day of the roundup to the end of the trail, Arty encounters both new friends and new dangers. As he follows the herd and faces the troubles, Arty realizes that his education as a cowboy and as a Christian isn't over yet. He recognizes more than ever his need for God's help and guidance.
